  1. Docked: the relay drone rides in a cavity in the main drone.
  2. The main drone flies out. Near the edge of the pilot’s range, the link weakens.
  3. Mid-air, the relay drone detaches. The two fly in coordination, passing the control and video signals through the relay.
  4. When the relay is no longer needed, the two re-engage.

In plain words

A main drone with a camera carries a smaller relay drone in a cavity in its body. The pilot flies with a remote control and sees the main drone’s camera view in a headset. When the main drone leaves the range of the remote and headset, the relay drone deploys mid-air, and the two fly in coordination so the control and video signals pass through the relay. When the relay is no longer needed, the two can re-engage.
